Your Body Is a Temple: Why Taking Care of It Is Worship

"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is within you, whom you have [received as a gift] from God...? You are not your own. You were bought with a price [you were actually purchased with the precious blood of Jesus and made His own]. So then, honor and glorify God with your body."

The Reality That Hit Me Hard

I was at the VA recently, and a nurse said something I haven’t been able to shake:

“About 95% of veterans at the V.A. don’t do 10–15 minutes of exercise per day.”

That’s not just a physical issue. That’s spiritual. That’s emotional. That’s generational.
And honestly… it broke my heart.

There’s a silent war of neglect happening in the temples we walk around in every day.
We’re not talking about gym memberships.
We’re talking about honoring what God designed — and for too many, the battle’s already been forfeited before it’s even begun.

We fought for our country — but we’ve stopped fighting for our health.
We were trained to endure hardship like good soldiers — but now, too many of us have surrendered our discipline to comfort.

So this post isn’t for the fitness junkies or the gym rats.
This is for the beginner. The tired. The hurting. The one who hasn’t moved in a while… but knows it’s time.

What Are You Allowing Into the Temple?

Every day, you feed your body —
Not just with food, but with thoughts. With movement (or the lack of it). With choices that either strengthen or weaken what God gave you.

Let me be real:

  • That extra hour of scrolling? It affects your temple.

  • That skipped water bottle? Same.

  • That bag of junk food because it’s easy? Yeah… it adds up.

But so do the small wins:

  • Choosing to stretch for 5 minutes instead of hitting snooze.

  • Walking around the block before dinner.

  • Swapping one sugary drink for water today.

You don’t have to do it all. You just have to start.
And when you do it with the right heart — it becomes worship.

Fitness as Faith: Why This Is Worship

Worship isn’t just singing.
Worship is obedience. Stewardship. Sacrifice. Alignment.

So when you say:

  • “I’m going to move my body because God gave it to me.”

  • “I’m going to eat better because I want to be ready for my calling.”

  • “I’m going to stretch, breathe, and rest… because I’m not meant to live in burnout.”

That’s worship.

That’s honoring the One who made you — not just with words, but with how you live.

3 Simple Wins to Start Today

1. Move for 10 minutes.
Walk. Stretch. Bodyweight squats. Just get blood flowing.

2. Drink one full glass of water when you wake up.
Before coffee. Before anything. It’s a reset button for your body.

3. Speak life over your body.
Literally say:

“This is God’s temple. I will honor Him with it. I’m not broken — I’m becoming.”

God doesn’t need perfection.
But He’s honored by Obedience.
